The UNSW Wests Magpies defeated the Cronulla Sharks to claim their ninth AWL championship — more than any club in history.
Captain Nathan Power reflected on what the win means in the context of the club's 60-year history. "When we think about our club, it comes from our culture. It started 60 years ago. To think about all the people who played before and to look at the position our club is in now, it's really special."
Power took the captaincy this season after the Magpies went through the regular rounds undefeated — a fitting backdrop for a record-breaking campaign. "To take the reins this year, it's a badge of honour I wear really proudly. Then to see this phenomenal young group and just how much they wanted it and how hard they worked, I'm very proud of all of them."
To cap off a perfect season, the Magpies swept the individual honours too. Matthew Byrnes took home the Charles Turner Medal as Player of the Season, while Nic Bicari was named Player of the Finals Series, awarded the Tom Hoad Medal.
